When it comes to getting pregnant there are both the medical facts and a little common sense required in order to improve your ability to have the baby you have always wanted. Before trying to get pregnant it is always wise to consult with a medical professional to ensure that everything is ok and that the conditions are right so as to achieve your goal.

Once you have completed a preliminary check-up you need to put together an ovulation calendar. This will help you pinpoint when you are ovulating and the optimal time conceive.

Once that step is completed, it’s time for the woman to get to know her body a little better by making an ovulation calendar, i.e. finding out when, exactly, she ovulates. Because every woman’s body is different, this can vary slightly for each individual. The process of figuring out when a woman is fertile, however, is uniform.

The average menstrual period is twenty-eight days. The average ovulation period is two to four days. To get a general idea of when you begin ovulating, and assuming you have a twenty-eight day cycle, simply count forward fourteen days from the first day of your period. If your cycle is twenty-nine days, count fifteen days forward, and so and so forth. Remember to adjust accordingly to your individual cycle.

Simply taking your temperature every day is another way to chart ovulation. Your temperature will elevate slightly, a few tenths of a degree to be exact, while you are ovulating and remain elevating throughout your period. Using both a thermometer and an ovulation calendar will help you to pinpoint when your body is most fertile.

Once you have a good idea of when you are ovulating, it is time to enjoy some intimate time with your partner. It is important that you both enjoy this time and avoid letting the attempt to conceive turn intimacy into a stressful or obligatory activity. This is important not only for psychological reasons, but also because physically both people achieving orgasm has proven to help successful conception.

Post-coital activity is also an important part of getting pregnant. After intercourse it is important for the woman to prop her hips up to help the sperm get to the fertile egg. Since an egg stays fertile for about two days, frequent intercourse will help to increase the chances of getting pregnant.

The first step to getting pregnant quickly is getting to know your body. With just a little help and a few changes in your lifestyle, you could soon be welcoming a new family member to your life.

by Dr. Noel Swanson

We all are familiar with bad parents, those that are critical of their children, intolerant, and self-absorbed. But how can you be a good parent? What do you need to do to give your children the very best start to life that you possibly can?

In the 1960’s John Bowlby did a lot of work looking into the effects of parenting on children. In those days he coined the term “good-enough parenting”. His thesis was that provided you avoided the sins of “bad” parenting, you were doing okay, and your children, with their own natural resilience, would also do okay. So is that all there is to it? Or are there things that you, as a parent, can do to be more than just a “good enough” parent. Can you, indeed, be a “super parent”, even the “ultimate” parent? Or is that just a myth of the feminist movement?

Well, let’s get one thing straight once and for all: No one is perfect. Try as you might, you will never be a “perfect” parent. You will never get it right every moment of every day for every year of your children’s growing lives. Nor do you need to. In that sense, Bowlby’s concept of “good enough” is very true. You do not need to be perfect. Your kids WILL survive. “Good enough” is good enough

But, I suspect that you probably want more for your kids than just average. I strongly believe that there are things you can do, and attitudes you can adopt, that will give your children the very best start to life they could possibly have. And, at the same time, will actually make life easier and more fulfilling for yourself too. It is not a long list, but if you can manage the following, then I believe you have every right to call yourself the “ultimate” parent:

1) Recognize you are human. You cannot do everything, you cannot be everywhere, you cannot know everything. You will make mistakes. You also have your own issues, problems and hang-ups from your own past. That is all okay. The key to this game is not being perfect, but having the right attitude.

What is the right attitude? Being humble. Recognising that you have much to learn (we all do) and being willing to be teachable and to learn from your mistakes. A sign of genuine maturity is being able to look back at your past, recognize the mistakes you made, and say “this is what I have learned about myself, and what I need to work on changing in myself”.

Of course, there’s also a danger of constantly putting yourself down by telling yourself that you are no good. Allow yourself to occasional make mistakes and celebrate when you are successful. Only focus on the past as long as it takes you to learn and make changes, then move forward in the direction YOU want to go. Of course, if you have serious problems, get help.

2) Recognize you are playing a percentage game. We have all heard of them: the kids from the most abusive, deprived backgrounds who somehow manage to make huge successes of themselves. And the kids from the very best of families (as demonstrated by their siblings) who somehow go off the rails into drugs and crime.

The reality is that you, the parent, are only one factor in your children’s upbringing. They are also subject to influence from the friends, other relatives, teachers, shop keepers, TV, magazines and, of course, their own genetic makeup. You cannot control all the variables. You might be the very best, the ultimate parent, and yet your kids turn out as failures. You might be the very worst, alcoholic and abusive parent, and yet your kids do fine. Nothing in life is guaranteed.

This is why you play the percentages. Society has shown us that if you beat your children the odds are greater that they won’t turn out to be good adults. So you probably don’t want to beat them (even if you sometimes feel like it). The odds are much more in their favor if you are fair and consistent with your discipline.

By the way, successful parenting isn’t determined by how excellent your children end up being. Success for you and them means that you did the very best that you could with what you knew at the time. Some of those decisions were probably wrong when you look back, but that happens. If you didn’t try, and took the easy way every time without trying to determine how your decision would affect the children, then I do believe that you failed. That holds true even if your lazy decision ended up being right.

3) Remain aware that you have other people and things in your own life. Too many of us these days start thinking that children come before anything or anyone else. I agree that we must think of what’s best for them, but we have to keep other things in mind as well.

It may be, for instance, that taking a new job in a different city might be the best thing for your family - even if it means taking your child away from his school and friends.

Continually putting the children first leads to the creation of self-centered and selfish beings who always believe that the world owes them a living. Taking second place sometimes is actually good for them, as it teaches them an important life lesson. Do continue considering the impact on the child with every decision, but follow your instincts as to what would be best for the whole family.

4) Always think about the long term. Raising your children doesn’t happen overnight, so keep your long-term aspirations in the forefront. What kind of adults to you want them to be, and what life skills will help them? What are the best experiences to help them develop strong characters and those skills?

Some times parents are faced with quick results or taking the longer, harder approach. Many times the longer approach, while more difficult short term, bears fruit in the long range. For instance, when kids are getting difficult or rowdy, it’s easy to turn to the TV as an easy babysitter, but most often your child wants your attention, the chance to sit with you and work on a puzzle, read a book or build a model.

5) Look for the positives. Like you, your children will make mistakes. Forgive them. Correct them gently and move on. Always be looking for what they did right, not what they did wrong. Children crave their parents’ attention. Pay attention to what they do wrong, and they will do more of it. Pay attention to what they do right, and they will be eager to please you more.

6) Stick to your guns. Believe in yourself. If you are doing all the above, then you are well on the right track. There will be times when you make decisions and you get challenged on them, either by your children, or by others (such as interfering relatives). Unless there genuinely are new facts that you weren’t aware of before, don’t be swayed. And don’t be afraid to say no - to your children and your relatives - if that is the right thing to say.

Your decisions won’t always be perfect. Sometimes you’ll make mistakes and wish you could change the results, but it’s far better to stick with your decisions than constantly be wishy-washy. Your children watch you and learn from your decision making and how you handle pressure. If you are consistent, your children will learn by your example.

Everywhere you look, you’ll see the signs of an obesity epidemic in the United States. Adults struggling with their weight, levering themselves into and out of cars. Many so morbidly obese that they’ll circle a parking lot four or five times before parking rather than be forced to walk an extra hundred feet.

For some people, this is tied to genetics - there are several genetic triggers that, when we lived hand to mouth as a species, were survival traits. Being able to store fat in prosperous times was an insurance of survival in the winter. Also in that calculus lies the fact that we have, as a population, become more sedentary as technology has progressed.

We must not allow our children to become victims of an over active appetite. If you pay close attention to the dietary counselors, you’ll discover that a slightly overweight child soon becomes an overweight teen. As you may have already guessed, this teen now becomes an obese adult. Unfortunately, abnormal weight gain is the least of the problem. The major issues center around the many diseases associated with childhood obesity, including asthma, diabetes and some cancers.

Preteens, tweens and teenagers are also prone to body image dysmorphia, driven by peer pressure, social imaging and just the changes their body is going through. Being a teenager is hard enough as it is; it’s even worse when you’re carrying 40 or 60 extra pounds of body weight and alarmingly, the fastest growing market segment for diet products like SlimFast and MediFast are teenaged and younger girls.

The good news is that this trend can be stopped. In fact, you may be surprised at the simple solution.

Remember when you were a kid? You know, before video games like the Nintendo Wii. You actually had friends who played outside with you. You had energy and used it.

If you felt tired or felt dehydrated, you immediately reached for a glass of water or milk. Sweets were a treat for good behavior rather than your main course. Snacks did not come prepackaged but rather apples, oranges and bananas were your choice.

While the fast food outlets might not want you to know this, many parents are successfully teaching their kids to make healthy eating decisions. Today however, water too many of our youth is like the library, they’ve heard about it but never fully experienced it. Listen up parents. Sodas, juices or energy drinks are not a substitute for water. When properly hydrated, hunger pangs were shown to decrease significantly compared to those individuals who consumed no water.

Another simple trick is to schedule snack times along with family style meals. As an example, rather than Johnny eating a snack whenever he is bored, you establish certain times during the day when he will have a snack and what his choices are. By doing this early, it minimizes the impulse eating and helps children make proper choices.

Staying physically active is an absolute necessity. Children are usually mirror images of their parents. If you as a parent live a sedentary life, the chances of your child duplicating your example are very high. If you have little league teams in your town, encourage your children to participate. Not all kids are athletic but all kids need to be active. In addition, set aside at least one day in the week where the entire family is physically active together. It could be a walk in the park or playing tag in the backyard.

Have you ever heard the acronym “WYSIWYG”? It stands for “What You See Is What You Get”. Well, that is the reality your children are faced with on a daily basis. They will never raise their standards of healthy living beyond that of your own. If you are serious about having an impact on their lives, ask yourself this question, what can I do today that will demonstrate to my family that I am committed to living a long and fruitful life.

Following are questions asked by parents of special needs children:

by Dr. Noel Swanson

Following are questions asked by parents of special needs children:

1. How do special needs children understand cause and effect and also rewards versus punishments? Do they understand the same as other children?

The fact is that this is not an issue. No matter what type of living being you are we akk have an interest in reward versus punishment to some level. Think about the bottom of the food chain such as a cockroach. Cockroaches despise the light and live to move around in the dark hours of the night. They associate good feelings with dark and bad feelings with light. They might not think about it, but rather just feel it based on experience and instinct.

If you flip on the lights you will see roaches hurrying towards darkness under a couch or a crack in the wall. They sense the light and know that a feeling of punishment is headed their way. They know that if they head towards darkness they are heading towards a reward. This repeat reward makes them always want to scramble to the darkness.

But roaches are not trainable. To be trainable, you also need a memory. Dogs have a memory. They can remember that if they hear the word “sit” and they do so, they normally get a reward (a treat or praise).

The more you go up on the ladder of life creatures, the higher memory functioning. Improvement of awareness and analytical skills surfaces. When these attributes increase, you need to vary the intensity of the rewards and punishments to have any effect.

What reward and punishments should you dole out? Easy. Try first by experimenting with different rewards and punishments based on your own experience. Have a system of rewards and punishments that will affect your child’s behavior. Make sure that you are consistent. If their behavior changes then you have accomplished your goal. If it does not then take these two things into consideration:

a) your rewards and punishments systems did not have big enough meaning in your child’s life or

b) they were unable to make a connection between the behavior and the consequent reward or punishment. For example, if the time interval between behavior and consequence is too long, then the younger or less able child may not be able to connect the two.

If your system doesn’t seem to be effective then you need to stop and evaluate what you are doing. Make improvements and modifications. Try the system another time. Keep changing the system until you find one that works. If you are unable to find a system that works then think about the following:

You have tried all of the things you can think of and your child’s behavior hasn’t budged. What do you do? For example, let’s say your child had PDD. You are required to complete a few hours of physical therapy with your child eacy day. However, your child doesn’t want to do the physical therapy.

You try everything in your bag of tricks and read the book thoroughly. You try different reward and punishment systems to no avail. You have struggled to make physical therapy appear like a fun time. No matter what you do, you are not accomplishing the physical therapy session every day.

So what is one to do? Well you have two options here:

a. You could become all upset and flustered about it. You get mad at yourself for your apparent failure. You feel like you are no service to your child. You want to find the magic trick that will make your child want to do his physical therapy session.

b. You stop and look at your situation. You take a deep breath and look at things realistically and logically. You are okay with the fact that half the time the physical therapy session may not happen, but this is still an improvement from how much physical therapy your child was accomplishing last year.

Which is better?

The downfall of (a.) is that you will amp up your stress level which affects everyone negatively. You are not having a good time and your results won’t improve this way.

The reality is that there is, perhaps, nothing on Earth that would motivate Tim to do those exercise 100% of the time. Sorry. But we live in an imperfect world, and maybe the child in the wheelchair really will never walk. We would all wish it were different. But if that is how it is, then that is how it is.

It is critical that you pay attention to your child’s specific needs. Strive to define success off of what you are provided with and not an ideal. When you do this, you will ward off stress and the results you want will occur. If things still don’t improve would you want to have: a) limited performance and we are all angry? b) limited performance and we are all happy?

The key point is to not try to compete to an ideal level when it might not be a realistic goal.

by Daniel Morgan

Using an organic natural baby soap on your child is not only safe for them but also for the environment as well. Such products contain no kinds of artificial ingredients, which are likely to cause irritation to their sensitive skin.

As you will soon discover there are numerous different types of natural organic baby soaps that one can select from today. However, you may find that there are some that are better suited to your child than others. But along with these kinds of soaps being safe for use on young babies and children, these can also be ideal for other members of your family as well.

The problem with actually purchasing commercially made organic soaps is that they are more expensive than other ones that are not. So if you would like to use only natural products on your child’s skin and save yourself money as well you could always have a go at making your own soap instead. All you will need is a few pieces of equipment including a couple of saucepans, some gloves and goggles as well as the natural ingredients. Below we take you through the steps of making your own natural organic baby soap.

Step 1 - You need to get together all the ingredients to make the soap. For this particular soap, you will need 15 ounces of organic olive oil, 5 ounces of organic palm oil, 5 ounces of organic coconut oil as well as 3.5 ounces of lye and 8 ounces of water.

Step 2 - Next, you need to prepare the lye you do this by adding it to the water and once it comes into contact with a chemical reaction occurs. As the lye comes into contact with the water it actually makes it heat up and it is best if you carry out this step outside because the mixture also lets off fumes. Once the lye has been thoroughly mixed with the water, you need to let it stand in order for it to cool down. It is best to let it reach room temperature before you start the next step of the soap making process.

Step 3 - After the lye mixture has reached room temperature, you now need to add the oils to this. But before you can do this, you will need to heat them up so place them all in the other pan and wait until they have reached the correct temperature. Using a thermometer will help you to know when the right temperature has been reached for the oils.

Step 4 - After the oils have reached the correct temperature, take the pan that they are in off the heat and very slowly begin to stir in the lye mixture that you prepared earlier. Once you have completely mixed the lye into the oils you can use a stick blender if you want and mix for one minute until the soap becomes thick and opaque.

Step 5 - As soon as the mixture has reached the right consistency then you can pour it into moulds. Once in the moulds you should allow the soap to stand for around 24 hours in a cool place so that it can set properly. After this time, the organic natural baby soap that you have made will be ready for you to use.

More and more parents of newborn children prefer to purchase organic baby toys rather than the more traditional ones. Simply because not only are they much safer for their child to handle but they are also much kinder on the environment also. But what you will find is that even though the materials used are organic the toys will still provide a baby with hours of fun and enjoyment.

Along with more traditional wooden toys made using sustainable wood there are plenty of soft toys that one can get as well. Plus as we all know babies have a habit of actually putting everything in their mouths and buying toys, which are free of chemicals, are ideal for them.

When looking to buy any kinds of organic baby toys for your child there are certain requirements that need to be met for them to be classed as such. Below we take you through some of these requirements that should hopefully help you when it comes to finding out whether the toy you want to purchase is an organic one or not.

Should you be looking to buy wooden toys for your baby although the label may state that the wood used is natural, the manufacturing process means that it is not in fact organic. Sometimes chemicals will be used on the wood in order to bleach it so that it retains its natural color and which if the child chooses to put in their mouth can be absorbed by them.

This is a reason why you should read the label or the box in which the toy comes very carefully. Look instead for wooden toys which not only have been made using sustainable wood but which have been made using only natural processes. This will then help to ensure that the toy at no stage during its manufacture will have come into contact with chemicals that can be harmful to your child as well as the environment.

Another thing to be aware of when buying a wooden toy is what paints have been used on it in order to decorate it. Those that are organic should be toys, which have paints made from only natural ingredients, pigments or colors. Often you will find on the label that the paint is being described as lead free and therefore is much safer for them to handle than others.

We all know how much children love stuff toys, which they can hug close to them and provide them with a kind of security blanket. But again you need to be aware of what materials and processes have been used in order to make them. Look for those where all the materials that make up the toy including the stuffing have been from natural cottons or other natural materials (silk). This will ensure that no chemicals will have come into contact with them.

A good way of learning about the various different types of organic baby toys available and how to know which ones are ideal is by going online. Here you will find plenty of information and advice that can help to ensure that you select safe and enjoyable toys for your baby in the future.

Baby monitors are a boon for busy parents. They not only allow more freedom of movement around the house, but also provide for the safety of your children even when you can’t be right by their side. However, with the many different types of baby monitors available, new parents may find it difficult to choose which monitor is the most practical for their needs.

Some guidelines to help parents pick the ideal baby monitor are given below. These apply to audio and video, analogue and digital monitors.

1. Clarity of reception (whether audio or video) and low static is the most important consideration to ensure the safety of your child. You need to be able to clearly hear or see your baby’s activities.

2. Having a baby monitor that’s small and easy to carry is useful when you need to move around, doing your chores. Such monitors often come with really tiny receivers.

3. Another useful feature of a baby monitor is a clip you can attach to your belt, making it easy to carry the monitor around conveniently. If this is your intention, test it properly to make sure the reception is good everywhere in the house and that the device can handle rough usage every day.

4. A light alarm that activates whenever it picks up sound is another useful feature for those times when you might be preoccupied with loud noises such as the sound of the television or vacuum.

5. Having a warning that the battery is running low is another feature to take into consideration. If your receiver runs out of battery and you don’t notice, you will feel a sense of false security, and your child could be in danger.

6. It’s also important that you pick the correct range or bandwidth. A large area will need a broad range, whereas a monitor used in an apartment or small house would need less, particularly if the device is going to be near many mobile phones or other devices which transmit and receive signals.

7. If you’re considering a wireless model, be aware that you might experience interference with the signal. You and your next-door neighbors may utilize similar channels and wind up hearing noises from each other’s homes. Cordless telephones may also interfere with your signal. Look for a product that utilizes no-interference technology or has additional security features.

8. Technological innovations have made it possible to combine sound and visual monitoring in a video baby monitor. Although the video option seems like a brilliant idea, you still won’t be able to stare at the screen all the time. For that reason, you definitely shouldn’t sacrifice excellent sound quality over supplementary features.

Keep in mind that the best baby monitor is not always the most costly one. What matters is the fact that it is suitable for your situation and tough enough to survive everyday use. And the most important features are those that will assist you to keep your baby safe.

A lot of people would respond to a babysitter needed ad. Unfortunately though, not every candidate is a good choice. The only way for you to find a person who can really take care of your kids the way you want them to is to screen applicants. How do you go about screening possible babysitters?

Ask About Experience

Organized Resume - A person applying to be a sitter would normally have a resume. Good applicants would have organized resumes that would give you an idea about their experience. It is however, still a good idea to personally ask a sitter to expound on these written experiences. You should be interested to know how long she has been babysitting and how many families she has sat for. It is also crucial to ask a potential sitter the ages of kids she has watched over and what kid ages she is most comfortable with. There is a very big difference between taking care of an infant and a toddler.

Ask About Training

A lot of accidents or emergencies can happen while you are away. You should therefore be interested to know if your potential sitter has had some first aid training. This may also include short courses on emergency preparedness. It is however, unrealistic for you to expect all sitters to have comprehensive courses on these topics. If an applicant doesn’t have extra courses, ask her how she would respond to certain emergencies. Be specific in providing imaginary situations that require prompt action.

Inquire on Real Experiences

Dealing with Crucial Points - Those who respond to your babysitter needed ad have their ways of dealing with situations. You should try to find our how they deal with crucial points. This includes their manner of child discipline, how they put kids to bed and how they deal with difficult kids.

Kids - What is important is that they can deal with kids firmly and creatively without resorting to hitting or shouting at kids. Moreover, a sitter’s techniques should be agreeable to you and should abide by your own personal parenting rules.

Setting Work Preferences

Ask prospective sitters their work preferences. Their preferred work hours should match your needs. You may need a sitter for example to stay for the whole night or to stay for the weekend. Aside from work hours, determine too if a sitter would be willing to perform other duties aside from watching over kids. They may need to do some cooking for the kids’ meals for example or they you may need them to take the kids to school. The amount and terms of payment should also be set.

Get References

Every sitter should have references. Ask for a couple of families your sitter has worked for. Give some of these people a call and ask about their experience with your sitter. It would also be good if your sitter can show some official identity or background check clearances.

Many parents are realizing just how important it is that their children eat a well-balanced and healthy diet. Along with eating, the right kinds of foods these parents are now starting to realize the important of caring for their child’s skin as well. So a large number of now preferring to buy natural organic baby skin care products rather than using the more commercial brands.

It is important to remember that a child’s skin is extremely sensitive and for those who suffer from skin conditions including eczema may find normal skin care products make the problem much worse. It is the additives and chemicals in these products which not only cause a child’s skin to dry out but which can make a skin condition they already have much worse.

But as well as being able to purchase over the counter naturally organic skin care products for children and babies, a parent if they wish can make their own. It really is easy for a person to make their own products all one needs to do is actually mix the natural and organic ingredients suggested together.

However, although most can be mixed together quickly and easily there are some that may require cooking before they can be used. Yet one does not need to have any specific culinary skills in order to do this. Many homemade products that one can make for use on a babies skin cannot only be applied directly to the skin but also eaten by the child as well.

The reason many parents prefer to make their own rather than buy natural skin care products for their baby as it will save them money. Also once made as long as the product is kept in a sealed container and refrigerated they can last for several months. Below we look at a couple of the kinds of products that one can make in order to look after your baby’s skin properly.

A quick and easy product to make that will ensure that your child’s skin remains in good condition is a talcum powder made from arrowroot, chamomile and lavender. In a jar, place a cup of arrowroot powder, 1 tablespoon of dried chamomile that has been grounded and 1 tablespoon of dried lavender. This powder not only prevents a child’s bum from becoming damp when wearing nappies but also prevents the growth of bacteria as well.

Another important product that many parents use on their child is a baby shampoo. Certainly there are plenty of baby ones available, but a few of these can be very harmful to a child’s skin. Instead, why not make your own by mixing together some fresh rosemary that has boiled in distilled water and then strained. To this, you then add some unscented baby oil and some drops of rosemary essential oil.

Together with the natural organic baby skin products, which we have described above there, are plenty of others which you may want to try making for yourself. A quick look online and you will find plenty of different recipes that you can try in order to make the ideal products to care for your baby’s skin.

by Dr Pam Tony

We are what we eat. This is something you’ve probably heard ever since you were a small child. Chances are you tell the same thing to your children.

We have to educate them when they are young. It is very important to do this when they are young.

Bad diet will cause health problem such as obesity later in life.

This is the last thing any of us want for our precious little ones. So, now you have to stop and think for a moment. What are you routinely feeding your child?

Me and my wife started to provide our kid with the right diet the moment they were born. It is good to give her a head start.

Obviously for nearly a year, it was all about the milk and formula. But once she began teething, we knew we had to make some choices.

We started off with fruit and vegetable.

Now at the age of eight, she absolutely can’t live without all her fruits and vegetables.

She just got so used to them. She just love it.

Another prudent choice when it comes to childrens diets involves fast food. Steer your child away from this stuff.

Fast food has no nutritious value at all and is no good for anyone.

They will only end up growing out, instead of up. Gaining weight can seriously affect their self-esteem. So don’t allow it to happen.

That type of food lacks proper vitamins and nutrients that are essential for growth. Also, they’re loaded with fat, sodium and cholesterol.

Another key to successful childrens diets is the avoidance of soft drinks. If you get your child hooked on sugary soft drinks, they’re doomed. Don’t give it to them.

Again, make it a special treat thing that doesn’t occur often. Instead, provide them with milk, water, and 100 percent juice. Let them choose.

This makes it more enjoyable. Good health starts early. Be serious about good children diet.

by Daniel Morgan

A lot more new parents are preferring to buy prepared organic baby food to feed to the new addition to their family. You will often find that although these parents want the best for their children they rarely eat organic food themselves.

If you are going to be buying ready prepared organic baby food then it is better to go for the types that have been frozen rather than canned or bottled. The reasons for this is that very few of the nutrients will have been lost that are essential to your baby’s health during the freezing process. Also, they retain the flavor of the ingredients far better as well and so you will find that your child enjoys eating them more.

Although it is easy to buy prepared baby food over time, this can prove to be very expensive especially when buying those that use only organic products in them. If you really want to save yourself some money but ensure that, your baby has a healthy well-balanced diet you could always make the food yourself. You can even save more money if you actually prepare and cook the ingredients in bulk and then freeze the right size portions.

If you do choose to make your own baby food you will need to make sure that you have the right kitchen equipment. A good quality electric blender or food processor is essential in order that you reduce the sizes of the pieces of food so that your baby finds them easy to eat. Also, get a good pot with a solid base that you can use for cooking the food in and which will help them to retain their flavors and nutrients better. Plus get yourself some pots or freezer bags in which the right size portions can be placed then frozen for use at a later date.

The first that you need to do with the organic food you are preparing is to thoroughly clean it. Then with your fruit and vegetables, you need to peel them and remove the seeds that could be dangerous if they become lodged in your baby’s throat.

For those of you who are including fish or meat in their baby’s food then you will need to remove all skin, fat and bones from them. If you can also avoid adding any salt, sweeteners or spices to the food that you are preparing for your child. Remember they will have very sensitive palates and could cause an allergic reaction in your child.

As you cook the food, you should use as little water as possible as this will further help to ensure that they retain as many of the nutrients that your child needs as possible. Also, ensure that they are tender but not soft as this can lead to a reduction in the number of nutrients, minerals and vitamins that they contain.

If you are, do not know what kinds of organic baby food meals you should be preparing for your child there is plenty of advice and help on the internet that you can use. In fact, as you will soon discover there are plenty of different organic baby food recipes that you may want to try. But whichever recipes you do try, it is important that you use the best organic ingredients possible.

Baby sitting services are getting popular these days. It’s even made more accessible to parents through the internet. They aren’t exactly like traditional agencies. They also aren’t mere listing sites. Online sitter services are actually the best of both worlds. With a good sitter service, you get an ideal baby sitter at an affordable cost. There are a lot of online sites to choose from though. If you want to find the best, here are some considerations to take note of.

Reputation and Length of Operation

Knowledge on Babies - A sitter service should specialize in the field of baby sitting. Most online services however, would naturally claim to be real experts. The best way therefore to find the really good ones would be to take a look at their track record. How long has the sitter service been in business? Although new businesses may be just as good as old ones, it would be a good idea to stick with a company that has had a lot of experience. It shouldn’t just be any kind of experience though. A sitter service should have a long, extensive and expert experience in the field of baby sitting.

Get clients’ feedback. You might get a clue about company experience by reading what clients think. You can get a load of these by visiting independent parenting and sitting forums. Parents who are happy with a particular baby sitting company would be willing to say so online. The same can be said for parents who aren’t happy about a particular service. You would at least know which sitting service has the best reputation.

Services Offered

Baby sitting services should have a variety of services. This is because not every parent would have the same needs. In your case, you may also have varying needs at any given point in your family life. There may be times when you would need stay in sitters. At other times you may just prefer temporary sitter assistance. A good online service should be able to anticipate every client’s needs. There should be a variety of sitters who can stay in, stay out or provide short term service.

Other Services - Aside from the kind of sitters offered, you should also look for other services. The most important of these is the character investigation. Online sitting services should be able to provide you with baby sitter character files with complete clearances. You probably do not want to end up with a sitter who has a criminal history or a drunk driving case.

Screening Procedure

Learn more about their screening procedure. A site’s screening procedure is also important. Will a site perform screening for you or will you be allowed to be the one to screen? If you are an involved parent, you are likely still interested in having a hand at the screening process. Find out how a site will help you do that. How can you schedule interviews with sitters? What kinds of questions can you ask them?

Guarantees

A good online service should have some form of guarantee. Find out what a sitter site will be willing to do for you if you end up not liking your sitter. You may also need to replace a sitter if she has to go for personal reasons. Will a site replace a sitter without extra charge?

Generally, availing of baby sitting services can be a great idea. It is crucial though that you pick the right service if you want a good experience with your sitter.

For 13 years you have slaved and worried. You have changed diapers, nursed them through chickenpox, cried on their first day at school, cheered for them in the school Christmas play, patched up skinned knees, and packed their lunch box for their first day at secondary school.

Surely those were the hardest years? Now they are growing up. Now they are a bit more independent, a bit more mature, surely things will get easier? They are big enough to help out with some chores. They can look after themselves for an evening if you want a well earned night off. You can have sensible conversations with them.

Then why is it that things don’t turn out that way when your child goes through their teenage years? What happens? In some societies, a 13 year old would be thought of as an adult. They could work in the government and even marry. This is not so in Western society. The teen years in the Western part of the world are stricken with with conflict and struggles. Why does this happen?

Clearly stated it is due to human development and everyone’s expectations.

The brain is complex. It is in a great state of growth and development during the teenage years. It is always growing, expanding, evaluating, and making links. These links build the foundation for memory, learning, perception, and social rationale.

During the first twelve years the brain learns a lot - it changes the child from a non-verbal, poorly coordinated baby to a verbal, literate, sociable and pretty competent pre- teen.

Then the teenage years hit the brain like a tornado. The brain goes into a state of shambles after which it rebuilds itself. While your brain is rebuilding itself your child might not be able to do some of the things they could before. For example, speaking to the opposite sex has suddenly become virtually impossible without becoming quite nervous. Throughout the teen years your child will need to understand the components of social interaction and how they fit into the whole social scene. They will make friends and strive to find their sexual ife partner.

Comprehending the ins and outs of the social scene can be difficult for their teenage brain. Their brain goes back and forth between its methods of operation during their pre-teen years and how they are expected to act as teens. This tug-of-war can make the social behavior of a teenager inconsistent and sometimes perplexing.

This tug-of-war is also affected greatly by the ups and downs of their sex hormones. Plus, teens tend to stay up late and skip much needed sleep. These factors together can make for one feisty teenager.

Teens also have to deal with the different expectations placed on them now that they are teenagers. They hear every day from many sources that they “should” be doing certain things and the definitions between normal and abnormal. Expectations for how they should act during each year of their teenage experience is detailed by their parents, friends, teachers, police, and society. It can be hard for a teenager to discern exactly how they should act when they have all these people forcing their opinions on them.

This leads into the difficulty with imposing expectations. If you have one, then there is the possibility that your expectation will not be met. A behavior that is considered a “no-no” is turned into a big problem.

So, with all these people having different expectations of what your teenager “should” be doing, plus the heady biological mix described above, is it any wonder that the fireworks go off?

How do you cope with a teenager that is up and down in their emotions and actions? You can use some of these tips. When you have a fight with your teenager or you are just sick of what they are doing, take heed of the following:

1) Bickering and yelling will get you no closer to a resolution.

2) Your teenager wishes to have the optimal outcome as well. They are relying on the ability of their perceptions and skills which could vary greatly from yours.

3) Remember your teenager is still trying to sort life out and may not understand either why you are fighting.

4) Why is it such a big problem? Whose expectation has not been met? Is this really a significant pothole on the highway of life?

5) Is there another way of motivating your teenager to comply, other than trying to bully him?

6) Your teenager will outgrow the teenager years in a matter of a few years. Think about the future and what kind of memories you want to create.

With that being said, it is a good idea to have rules and expectations. However, don’t get so uptight. Don’t be so strict that your teenager wants to avoid you. Determine how to have fun together so you can both get through the teenage years with smiles on your faces and love in your hearts.

When it comes to making your own infant or toddler Halloween costumes, you can have the time of your life! It may be challenging to find just the right costumes, as you stay within your budget and create a infant or toddler Halloween costume that is both safe to wear while being easy to get in and out of.

The simplest and the safest toddler Halloween costumes or those suited for infants, should not interfere with their movement, their eyesight or their halting walk. They will invariably want to practice this on the steepest of steps leading to a home at which they trick or treat, or that party you permitted them to attend.

Keep in mind the ability to wear other clothing under the Halloween costume, especially since the climate is not so warm during this time of year and the children may be wearing the costume over additional clothing. Always be mindful that neither infant nor toddler Halloween costumes encumbers their movement of arms or legs such as clothing that gather or bunch.

When dealing with infant and toddler Halloween costumes, whether they are bought or handmade, inspect them for safety. Every mask should be under review to make sure that it does not to hinder their vision. Face painting on the other hand is ideal. Face painting will not interfere with being able to see, while they are enjoying Halloween fun. Review any type of flowing infant and toddler Halloween costumes to make sure that it is not too long, as this will create hazards for a child as they move about. There are many fantastic new arrivals in infant and toddler costumes for Halloween. Many are available that include the use of face paints rather than a mask.

Some costumes are designed with resources such as the cheetah, leopard and dinosaur Halloween costumes, which include the use of two-piece costumes and face painting. Costumes of this variety are easy to get on and off while nature calls or when there is a need to readjust any clothing worn beneath the Halloween costume.

Infant Halloween costumes should have no small parts which may come loose and placed in a child’s mouth while you aren’t looking, nor should they have any type of heavy hood materials which might slip down over a child’s face while they are placed in the rear of a car in the car seat.

Of course, modern infant and toddler Halloween costumes are much safer than they have been in years gone by. Normally Halloween costumes are made of flame retardant materials. You should check to make sure that all your Halloween costumes are flame retardant as there are so many risks to the safety rules when regarding children and the use of candles inside jack o’ lanterns. It is best to use glow sticks in place of candles when at all possible. Safety should always be key in dressing a child up in a Halloween costume, whether an infant or a toddler.

Toddler Halloween costumes and infant Halloween costumes should be fun and interesting, not a hazard which may take what is a night of magic and fun to something far less than that. With a bit of care and inspection of what your child is wearing, your Halloween will be safe and fun for you and your child. Edited by Glinda Zuladra

A good babysitter agency may not be that easy to find. There’s a big possibility that if you aren’t careful, an agency can also be the cause of terrible headaches for you. Finding a good agency is as important as finding the right nanny or sitter. Here are some important tips to consider when looking for an agency.

See References - Always check the references of the agency itself. Find out through online message boards if it is a company that many people would recommend. Check too the track record of the company. Find out if it has been in the business of providing sitters to families for a long time and if there are instance of major client complaints.

Comparisons - Compare as many agencies as you can. You can easily do this through the internet. Many agencies have online sites that you can access. This will give you an idea which agency has the most convenient system and the most complete service.

List of Services - Go through an agency’s list of services one by one. Find out if they have everything you need or if they are missing some crucial service. Important services to consider are thorough background investigation and reference checks.

The Price - Never fail to ask a babysitter agency about the total cost. Be careful. Some agencies have lists of fees that do not include other possible costs. There may be some hidden fees that you may not know about. Always ask an agency for the complete breakdown and total of costs, including possible sitter replacement fees.

The Sitters - Ask too about arrangements for the sitter. Once you pick a sitter, find out if you would have to spend on transportation fees. Consider in advance if you would want a stay in sitter or one that would stay out. Not every agency provides both types of sitters.

Your Participation - Find out how much you will be involved. Some agencies will let you participate actively in the screening process. They could provide you with an opportunity to interview possible sitters. There are also some agencies that can do the screening for you so all you have to do is to wait for the sitter chosen by the agency. The agency type that you choose will depend on your own personal preferences.

Agency Guarantees - Ask about guarantees. How far will an agency be willing to accommodate your preferences with the least degree of inconvenience on your part? Will they replace sitters you are not happy with at no extra charge? What will happen if a sitter has to go home for personal reasons?

The Disadvantages - One disadvantage of a lot of agencies is the steep cost. Always be prepared to spend a lot on an agency is you want good service and a good sitter.

Trustworthy babysitting agencies do exist. However, you have to be careful. You don’t want to end up with the wrong babysitter agency. The wrong agency will not just be a waste of your money. It can also endanger your kids and your home by giving you a sitter who is either incapable or dangerous.

by MsMimee

A baby monitor is a very useful device for modern parents. Such a device allows you to check on your child’s safety when you are doing other things at a certain distance or outside the room. It not only saves you a lot of time. It also keeps you at ease knowing your precious little one is safe even at a distance.

There are many different kinds of monitors available in the marketplace today and sometimes it may get confusing. If you know the different model types and what to consider it will surely help you in making a choice.

In selecting a monitor that best fits your family, you have 3 major options to choose from: -an audio, video or a sensory monitor. Audio monitors allow you to hear the activities of your child (ex: crying) as they pick up sound. This type comes in both analog as well as digital models. The analog monitors are the most affordable but are usually still reliable. They work through the radio frequency and use FM signals to transmit the sound.

The major problem of this type of variety is the tendency of other receivers receiving the same signal that yours is sending out. This means less privacy. On the other hand, the digital model may cost a little more, but it provides more privacy and usually has a wider range of reception than analog. Another advantage is that the digital models do not have as much static and they give a clearer sound quality so you can hear your baby better.

Video monitors will allow you to SEE and HEAR your child by combining sound and video just like miniature TV sets. They use a very small camera ,either mounted on the wall, table or crib to transmit the images into the LCD display. They are usually portable and come with multiple cameras and even night vision.

The Sensory monitor pick up the baby’s slightest movements even during sleep and fits under the mattress of the baby. It sends an alarm to you when the baby stops moving or is absolutely still for 20 seconds. Some models come with audio monitors already installed. These come with a portable parent’s unit that sends you the alarm which allows you to hear your baby’s activities.

Some things that you should consider are– Always remember, that in choosing the type of baby monitor for your family you must reflect on which model would best suit you and your baby’s needs. The size of your home, and the clarity of frequency are very important factors to consider. Simpler models will do if you have a smaill house, but you would need a more sophisticated monitor system for a larger house.

The lifestyle and the type of work that you have to do is also another important factor to consider. Especially if your work requires you to be farther away from your baby’s room. You may need a monitor that covers the range, particularly a portable one. Remember that whether you would prefer an audio, video or sensory monitor, the clarity of sound and video of your unit should be of very good quality for you to effectively monitor your child. Whatever model you may choose, the most important aspects to consider is that your choice must certainly cater to your needs, fit your budget and most especially provide you with a good avenue to watch out for your baby’s safety.

Perhaps you've thought about homeschooling, because the schooling your kids are getting isn't a good fit. But you aren't serious about it. After all, you aren't a superwoman!

by Phyllis Wheeler

Perhaps you’ve thought about homeschooling, because the schooling your kids are getting isn’t a good fit. But you aren’t serious about it. After all, you aren’t a superwoman!

Guess what the main qualification is: it’s love for your kids. You CAN do it if you are dedicated to them. You can learn the skills you need gradually, as you need them, the same way you learned mothering skills. Jugglers start this way, first juggling just one item, then two, then later three.

Homeschooling may even be easier than not homeschooling. Instead of driving your several children to several same-age activities after school, you’ll be able to concentrate on activities you can all do together.

In addition, kids in school often have plenty of homework and need help from you in the evening. If you homeschool, you get all that out of the way in the morning, and your evenings are free.

If you have a large family, you’ll probably want to rely on unit studies. These are studies of large topics, such as ancient Egypt, which can be treated differently for kids of different ages. You can read all of them a novel about ancient Egypt, for instance Mara, Daughter of the Nile. A younger child would write a sentence about it, and an older one a three-page paper with bibliography. The kids can do art projects and learn about measuring the height of pyramids using similar triangles. The unit might last a month or so. There are many available for purchase on the homeschool curriculum market.

You will probably want to use workbooks and curriculum to make sure your child is learning what he should be learning for his grade. Homeschool curriculums typically include an answer key, so you don’t need to be an expert. Actually, homeschooled kids usually learn directly from the book or workbook, not from a lecture. This reading skill is great for preparing for college.

There are also correspondence schools that do all the teaching for you, if your child needs that.

Structuring your day is a question for you to ponder. Many homeschoolers get all their less-fun schoolwork done in the morning, leaving the afternoon for projects, goofing off, housework, or whatever. If you want to include your child in an organized activity, you can join regularly schooled children in their sports teams in the late afternoon. But there are daytime activities too. You can also ask around–some of these activities providers are creating daytime classes (in gymastics, for example) for homeschoolers. You do have to be careful to avoid burnout here, though.

How about socializing? Staying home all the time may be easier for you, but it may not make your kids happy. You may decide they need to get out and about for socialization. But here’s the best part: you get to choose whom your child socializes with. You don’t have to worry about bullies. You can make sure that socialization is well-supervised. You can choose adults, too. Homeschooled kids are usually very comfortable talking to adults, unlike schooled kids, I have observed.

A homeschool co-op is one of the best solutions to the need for socialization. If you meet once a week with other homeschoolers for class or field trips, your child gets well-supervised social interaction, and can learn and grow socially in a way that a schooled child cannot. Bullying is simply not a problem for homeschoolers! So how do you find a co-op? You have to ask other homeschoolers. If your area has a homeschooling convention, by all means go to it, and go to workshops if they have any. You need to network with other homeschoolers until you find or can create a co-op.

Lastly, how will you find support? Homeschooling is not for the faint of heart, and it’s not for the unsupported parent, either. You will need to find someone to share your challenges with. Many homeschooling parents support each other online. There are plenty of discussion forums attached to homeschooling Web sites, such as at www.welltrainedmind.com . There are plenty of e-mail groups for homeschoolers also.

Can you homeschool? The answer is, “Absolutely!”

At the birth of a first child, there will be many decisions made about parenting. For some, those decisions will involve bedroom patterns, baby’s first outfit home and the best bottles to use for feeding. For other parents, however, the parenting style will weigh more heavily on the mind than any other decision. One path available to the parent is by raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style. This parenting style allows for a step back from traditional parenting and a step toward an independent child.

Many believe that raising children mean being there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to guide them n every decision, tell them the answer to every question and virtually hold their hands through the beginning years of life. But, these actions take more away from the child than they give to them. By choosing the art of raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, the parent gives the act of learning back to the child.

Bottle weaning. Bottle weaning is left to the child when raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style. The key is to introduce a method of drinking that does not include the bottle. A straw can be a great choice. Kids love straws and once they learn to use one, they will no longer want to suck their drink from a bottle.

Potty training. Potty training is another very big mountain to climb with baby. When raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, potty training is less about making the baby sit on the potty and more about showing the baby how to use the potty. Raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style takes a more open mind about bathroom usage, but works wonders by giving the deciding choice back to the child.

Decision making. When raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, the child is the one who will be given the choice to make all decisions. The parent, on the other hand, takes the role of educator. When a child confront the parent with a choice they must make, instead of offering advice on the decision the parent would make, educate the child on all decision and allow them to choose.

Mistakes are alright too. Mistakes are gong to happen and raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style does not change that. Children who make mistakes will learn from those mistakes and that is how they grow into the adults they once become.

Raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style can be a struggle for many people. This parenting style means raising children with a lot less physical guidance than the parents parents often gave to them. When a parent chooses the paths of life for their children, they take away a part of them that must be allowed to grow. Raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style allows for the growth.

Many parents find choosing the more traditional parenting styles more comfortable and almost ingrained in their souls. But, for the parent who chooses raising children with the laissez-faire parenting style, the uncomfortability of the new parenting style is well worth the independent outcome.

When it comes to wedding plan we will never be able to say that we have completely exhausted all the sources and all the possible ideas. Some new idea will always keep popping up; so how does one get through all these successfully. If one follows some easy wedding plan tips before starting off with any of the preparations then the whole process will get little easier and the marriage function will become a great success. The wedding plan tips you follow should be practical so that it will not become counter productive making the marriage arrangements all the more complicated. Let us discuss a few tips here that will help you.

One of the most common guideline in all the wedding plan tips is the one on preparing the checklist. Once you prepare the checklist you will be able to keep track of the progress of the preparations. However, the number of items in the checklist will keep increasing till the marriage day. Once you have created a checklist you must organize the list otherwise an uncategorized list can create a lot of confusion. Group different items under respective heading such as catering, music, photography etc. Keep checking off all the items that you complete.

One more important point in wedding plan tips is to make a second list in which the work to be done in the same localities are clubbed together. This way all the work done in a specific locality would all be done when you visit the place. This would not only reduce time but would also remove the tension of going to the same place again and again. All the tension and the marriage anxiety would be reduced to a good percentage.

All of us would like our wedding day to be a grand one without any mess ups so we tend to spend a lot of time on trivial things. So the next in the wedding plan tips is follow the rule of simplicity. There is always beauty in simple things. Just the wedding process itself can bring in a lot of tension, if you complicate it further with other trivial things then it can become too much to handle. You will become too tired to enjoy your marriage day.

The next in wedding plan tips come the point which insists the couple to start the marriage arrangements well in advance. Giving good enough time, at least twelve months time, would be good. This would give you enough time to plan and arrange for the marriage and as well get you time for mentally getting ready for the marriage.

Many people make the mistake of handling all the tasks by themselves. They will not be able to delegate any work to others for the fear that others would mess them up. However, some of the things can certainly be handled by others even without your supervision. Some of the best wedding plan tips online suggest that delegating the right tasks is essential to make others also feel part of the marriage day celebration.

You can hire attendants who can help you with various tasks. When you make the checklist that was discussed as the first of the wedding plan tips, mark the items that you can delegate to attendants, family members and willing friends. When you delegate to family members and friends they will feel part of your marriage day celebration. So get all the support you can get.

Above all the wedding plan tips, the most important thing is that you have to constantly remind yourself that it is not another work or chore that you are performing so that you can get it done with it. You are preparing just not for a day’s celebration but for your marriage day that you can remember all your life. Remember to stay tuned to your inner feelings during this special time of marriage preparations and give priority to your gut feelings over any and all of the wedding plan tips.

The way you speak to yourself inside of your head has determined the paths that you have chosen to lead you to where you are today. Everybody has different things that they tell themselves when faced with difficult decisions. Remembering what those smart things are that you say to yourself so you can share them with your kids can be hard to do.

To help pass on your knowledge and wisdom to your children, you must make an event out of the process. Just by agreeing that you have certain beliefs and words of wisdom in you and that when you remember what they are you will then say them to your children, will not work. It takes conscious effort to pass on the knowledge and beliefs you have gathered through all of your years to your children. Having a specific time set up to do this makes sharing our wisdom with our children actually happen and occur on a consistent basis.

One of the best times to share your wisdom with your children is at the dinner table. They are in a captured environment and are forced to listen to your stories. They also have time to contemplate what you are saying.

This deadline that you have created will be what will drive you to come up with some of the secrets of life that have helped you in your life. Without the pressure and committing to sharing your knowledge at a specific time, you will be less likely to think of all those smart words of wisdom that have helped you out in your life.

Share these tid-bits with your kids:

- Before you say anything negative about someone, pretend they are standing beside you.

- With the advancement in crime scene investigation it is guaranteed that you will be put in prison if you commit a crime.

- Mistakes are our greatest teachers, so don’t be afraid to make one.

Giving a quick burst of wisdom sometimes works best. It doesn’t have to be lengthy or have to have a hearty explanation. You said the wisdom, that is what is the important part.

If you want to insure that your child is a prized worker, tell them this:

DO YOUR JOB AND THEN AN “ALSO”

When they are washing a car for money, tell them to “also” sweep out the car. If they are getting paid to paint a house, tell them to paint the house and “also” clean the brushes when they are done. This is the cheapest form of advertising.

Please enter a paragraph

Allergy is an exaggerated reaction of the immune system to antigens. Bee stings, insect stings, some food, or pollens are examples of an antigen. Each antigen triggers specific allergy attack and is manifested distinctly by each person. It is of frequent occurrence nowadays.

We couldn’t see the full symptoms of allergy but it is shown slowly by slowly and this stays for couple of days to rid of and trigger the substance. Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that could affects in different areas of the body at one time. This reaction is fatal and mostly the symptoms are difficulty in breathing and loss in consciousness but this happens in infrequent cases however the patient needs a prompt medical assistance if ever occurred.

One type of allergic reaction is seasonal allergic rhinitis, or hay fever. This is an allergic response to pollen and other microscopic substances that exist at certain times of the year. There are also conditions where allergic rhinitis works out to be perennial, or year round.

One of the types of allergic reactions is allergy to insect stings, which is very common. Some people however will not be aware of their allergy to insect stings until they are stung by an insect. More often than not, it is the second sting that triggers an allergy reaction while the first sting produces only a normal sting reaction. However if you have an allergy to insect stings, the severity of the reaction varies from person to person.

Allergy to latex is another of the types of allergic reactions where the person is allergic to substances made of natural latex. One of the main sources of this allergic reaction is rubber gloves while sometimes, latex that is used in other products like condoms and medical devices can trigger a reaction.

Mold allergy is an allergy that does not have a defined season as mold and fungi grow in all weather and thrive both indoors and outdoors. However some forms of outdoor mold tend to thrive in higher concentrations from spring to late fall. There are some people who suffer from allergy to cosmetics. With cosmetic allergy, you experience skin irritation because of some ingredients in the cosmetics like fragrances and preservatives. The two types of allergic reactions here are irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis.

Sometimes there are person who are allergic to pets and that is not the pet’s feather or fur that triggers a reaction. That is an invisible flakes of animal skin called dander that give you sneezing, watery eyes and airless nose. Also some experiencing in food allergies, food like peanuts and jalapenos trigger an allergic reaction.

Symptoms of different types of allergic reactions like hives, puffiness of the throat and your tongue, abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea and low blood pressure.

Planning a cool baby shower.

by Emma Costello

Planning a cool baby shower.

Baby showers can be a lot of fun, especially for the pregnant mom-to-be. Not only is this something for the baby, but now she doesn’t have to go out and buy. Before you throw a baby shower for someone there are a few things you should do to prepare. The first thing is figure out if this will be a surprise shower or not. There are benefits to both, the first one being if the mom to be knows she can help you with a list of people that she would like to be there. However, if it is a surprise she’ll be touched that you cared enough to throw her a baby shower, but be careful you don’t want to give her too much of surprise and put her in labor!

Drawing up the Guest List When it comes to making the guest list things can get a little tricky. Find out if there is anyone that would be upset if they weren’t invited. Never leave out close family or friends, and at least give them the option of showing up.

Games Planning: Games for a shower can be a bit difficult when you have so many fun games to choose from. Make sure you have a few gifts to pass out as prizes. Baby shower games are a lot of fun, here is a quick list:

Mommy’s belly- The mom-to-be stands in the center of the room and each guest gets to decide how big her belly is using a string or a toilet paper sheets. Find out who guessed the closest.

Guess the nursery rhyme- Give each guest a sheet of nursery rhymes and have them guess the nursery rhyme or finish it. This will help everyone remember them and see who reads those bedtime stories to the lucky baby.

Did you say Baby Game?- Each guest is given a small clothes pin to wear around their neck on a necklace or on their shirt. Every time someone says “Baby” all the other guests try to catch them.If they do they get to take one pin. At the end of the party the guest with the most pins wins a prize.

Memory- Using a plastic tin of some sort place a bunch of baby items in it such as, bib, thermometer, baby spoon, diaper rash crme, etc. Anything you’d use on a baby. Let each guest get a chance to look in the bin for a few seconds and take it away. Once everyone is finished have them write down everything that was in the box. The person with the most correct answers wins.

Baby Food Tasting - Have a variety of baby food in jars, take off the outside wrapper and place a number at the bottom of the jar.On a separate piece of paper write the name of each jar. Each guest is dished out a spoonful of baby food to try. Have them write down what they think each one is. The one with the most correct answers wins a prize.

Have a really enjoyable baby shower and ,if you’re a guest don’t forget to bring a gift !

When you decide to homeschool your child, you are committing to taking charge of your child’s education. There are many amazing benefits to homeschooling, but the responsibility and time commitment is significant as well. You probably need to spend a good amount of time planning lessons and units. A great way to end a unit is with a project. Projects help children sum up, review and implement everything they have learned.

Here’s an example of a great project idea that will demonstrate how to incorporate projects into your lesson plans effectively. Let’s say your child just completed a unit on biology, a great way to end the unit is to ask your child to create an ecosystem in an aquarium. The goal would be to create a self sufficient environment in a sealed aquarium. While learning about the different cycles of nature, encourage your child to contemplate different ways to create such an ecosystem. After your child has devised an action plan for the project, go to the store to pick up the list of required materials.

Let’s look at one example of how to set and implement a project. If you’ve been working on a biology unit, a good project idea is to create an ecosystem in an aquarium. The goal is to create an environment that can be self-sufficient in the sealed aquarium. While learning about nature’s different cycles, encourage your child to consider the most effective way to create an ecosystem. After your child has hatched a plan and spent some time laying out the details in terms of materials, methods and so on, go to the store to buy the required project materials.

Projects like this have proven effective because they allow children to not only make use of the knowledge they have acquired but to also use their creative and organizational skills. Parents find it easier to capture their children’s attention with hands on activities such as unit end projects. Projects also help children recall facts and ideas from the unit and instil them in the memory more permanently.

Projects can also be a great way to involve the entire family in a child’s education. The ecosystem your child creates, for example, could be placed in the kitchen or family room where all family members can observe and enjoy it. You can have your child present the project to the other family members and even hold a question and answer session. This will surely create a sense of pride in your child and help create positive feelings about his/her education. If your child attends public school, then chances are you only get to see their project when it all done. Homeschooling parents have the advantage of admiring and encouraging their child during every step of the way.

Another super advantage to homeschooling is that you are not limited by the practicalities necessary in a public school. Project ideas are only limited by you and your child’s imagination. For every unit, encourage your child to list ideas for long term project that will help solidify the knowledge they have acquired in a particular unit. Allowing your children to choose their own project ideas will not only enhance their creativity, it will also make them feel like they have a say in their education. This will do wonders for their motivation and enthusiasm.

by Dr. Noel Swanson

Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) show the following symptoms:

1) Poor concentration and attention span

2) Poor concentration and memory

3) The are very impulsive and do things without thinking.

4) Easily frustrated - often leading to temper tantrums and outbursts

The above traits are even shown by people who are not suffering from ADHD. Because of ADHD children suffer in various fields and activities in and out of school. They have to face defeat and failure in various areas like:

a) at school (getting work done, paying attention, daydreaming, losing homework, talking in class, being disruptive, etc.),

b)	Participating in healthy activities at home such as getting chores finished, maintaining cordial relations with siblings, maintaining a modicum of efficiency and getting things done on time.

c)	Participate and contribute actively in social activities such as being tolerant and accommodating of others, controlling temper and aggression, not playing practical jokes on others etc.

ADHD is not a malfunction of any body part as it is in conditions like asthma or diabetes. This condition of ADHD happens because parts of brain are not working at full efficiency

ADHD can be called a hereditary condition, where parents and children show similar symptoms. The symptoms and the ADHD condition does not go away in short span of time and takes a long time to get under control. Sometimes children suffer from ADHD through their teens into their adulthood also.

HOW IS ADHD MANAGED?

What bothers children suffering from ADHD is the danger and fear of long term implications and complications. For example:

a)	Their fear of failure at school owing to poor concentration, leading to school drop out

b) Are constantly in trouble because of their impulsive behavior

c) they may be so discouraged by their failures that they turn to drink, drugs, crime, or become depressed and anxious.

All of these may then have long term implications even into adulthood.

What you cannot beat has to be managed, and the goal of good management is to avoid complications. Since the process of management is a long term commitment, the only people who can effectively ensure its putting into place are the parents. The parents who live with the child, understand his needs and requirements and are the foremost people who are concerned with the well being of the child are the ones who need to take a proactive part in managing this difficulty. Unless parents themselves take the lead,
